The Tang-Five Dynasties

Buddhism was introduced to China during the Eastern Han Dynasty. During the Southern and Northern Dynasties, the society was turbulent. Buddhism became the spiritual sustenance of the people in troubled times. It was praised by emperors and dignitaries and spread fiercely. The Sui and Tang Dynasties reached its peak. The Northern Dynasties was a major peak in the development of Chinese Buddhist art, which was closely related to the frequent wars and social unrest at that time.

Two thick stone pillars are erected next to the stone-carved gatekeeper king, with a circular arch in the middle. The gatekeeper king stands on both sides, majestic. The two heavenly kings have vivid shapes, exaggerated facial features, frowned eyebrows, round eyes, round and convex eyeballs, and the bulging of the mouth layer to make the facial muscles vivid and energetic. The top of the head is tied in a high bun, the bun is tied with a crown, and the crown is fluttering, with a strong sense of art. This expression can be seen in the embossed Heavenly King statue of the Xiangji Temple Pagoda in ChangAn and the murals of the Tang Dynasty. Wad a Bodhisattva costume. It is mentioned in the second chapter of the great wisdom and interpretation of retribution: when the Buddha reaches the tree, he presents good grass. Administer the Vajra Bodhisattva, and often hold the Vajra Guardian Bodhisattva. It can be seen that in the early days, lux appeared in the form of bodhisattva costumes.

The king as a whole is full of majestic and mighty momentum, with round and full muscles, strong and healthy lower limbs, and a belt flowing down around his arms. The exaggerated realism technique shows the bravery of the strong man incisively and vividly. The achievements of sculpture art from the Northern Dynasties to the Tang Dynasty, such as statues of Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and strong men, reflected the beautiful images of real life and the real world at that time. Buddhist statues moved towards nationalization, secularization and humanization of art forms, showing brilliance, The gorgeous bodybuilding style highlights the typicality and theme, the inter nature and reality of the rich. The Buddhist sculptures of this period, with diverse styles, beautiful shapes, and proficient skills, were the peak period of the development of Chinese Buddhist sculpture art.
